I need to connect my HP4200 to wifi.  It randomly disconnects and reconnecting is often difficult.

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

 

We understand your HP DeskJet 4200 is intermittently disconnecting from Wi-Fi, and reconnecting it from your Mac running macOS 15 Sequoia has not always been smooth. Let’s refresh the printer’s wireless connection and set it up again cleanly.

 

Restore the HP DeskJet 4200 Wi-Fi connection

  1. Make sure the printer is powered on and ready.
  2. Press the Cancel button once to bring the printer to a ready state.
  3. Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds, until the Power button starts blinking.
  4. Wait until the blue Wireless light begins blinking continuously. This places the HP DeskJet 4200 back into Wi-Fi setup mode.
  5. Keep the printer reasonably close to the Wi-Fi router during setup.
  6. On your Mac, make sure it is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.
  7. Open the HP app on your Mac.
  8. Select the option to add or set up a printer, select your HP DeskJet 4200 when detected, and follow the prompts to connect it to your Wi-Fi network. HP specifies completing this process within 2 hours after restoring Wi-Fi setup mode. 

 

If a VPN connection is active on the Mac, temporarily disconnect it while completing the printer setup. HP specifically notes disconnecting from a VPN during HP app setup.

 

Once connected successfully, the printer's blue Wireless light should stop blinking and remain steady.

 

If the printer continues to disconnect

Repeat the Wi-Fi setup-mode procedure above and add the printer again through the HP app. HP specifically provides the network-reset procedure for situations where the printer's connection has been lost.

These steps provide a fresh wireless configuration and are a good starting point when an HP DeskJet 4200 repeatedly disconnects from Wi-Fi.
