I try to configure my Printer to be connected in Browser over https. I found no no cipher matching to TLS1.2 (or 1.1).
What do I wrong? do I need to activate the selfsign certs? Is there any documentation for this topic "secure communication"?
thanks in advance.

Hi @nekb ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to connect your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3302fdw printer securely via HTTPS, you’ll need to ensure that the printer is properly configured to support TLS encryption.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshooting and configuring secure HTTPS access:
1. Enable HTTPS and Install a Certificate
Your printer needs an SSL/TLS certificate to secure communication. By default, many printers have a self-signed certificate, but you may need to activate or install it manually.
Access Printer’s Web Server:
- Open your web browser, enter the printer’s IP address (usually something like http://192.168.x.x), and press Enter.
- Log in using your administrator credentials.
Activate HTTPS:
- Navigate to the Networking or Security section of the settings.
- Look for HTTPS or SSL/TLS settings and ensure HTTPS is enabled.
Set Up Certificates:
- If your printer has options for certificates, select Self-Signed Certificate to enable SSL/TLS encryption.
- If your network requires a specific certificate, you may need to upload a trusted CA-signed certificate. Some networks require this for devices to communicate securely.
Choose TLS Version and Cipher Suites:
- Under Security or Advanced Settings, make sure that TLS 1.2 is enabled.
- Some HP printers do not support all TLS cipher suites by default. Ensure the most common TLS 1.2-compatible cipher suites are selected if they are available in the settings.
2. Verifying HTTPS Access
Once you’ve activated HTTPS and set up the certificate:
- Access the printer using https:// followed by its IP address.
- Accept any security warnings if using a self-signed certificate. This may appear as a browser alert indicating an "untrusted" connection due to the self-signed certificate.
3. Documentation and Resources
HP provides detailed documentation on configuring secure printer communications, typically in the user manual or online:
- Check the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3302fdw User Manual for specific HTTPS setup instructions.
- HP’s Enterprise Printing Security resources also provide guidelines on managing TLS and certificate requirements on HP printers, which may be useful for advanced settings.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
