General help for new modem but just skip down the where you reset the modem and then reconnect
1 - Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer
2 - Wi-Fi connection is lost after router or network settings change
3 - HP Smart help with printer connection.
Click here for network setup using HP Smart but in a different language
You may need to reset the printer
Method one
Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button at the same time for at least three seconds. The printer restarts and then the Wireless light starts blinking blue, indicating the printer is in Auto Wireless Connect (AWC) setup mode. You can now set up a wireless connection between the printer and your device. |
method two
WiFi setup to router: video here
For WiFi direct setup see page 9 click here.
This is useful if there is no modem or you do not want to give someone access to your modem but you want to let them print something. Or watch this video.
Simple push button or WPS setup is described on page 8 of above Users Manual
Full feature software 1001nw Nov 2021
Printer Reference 1001nw
Let me know if you have a flex system (WiFi boosters or repeaters) as the setup is much more complicated.

Thanks for your help on this one. I did a couple of things at once, so not sure which one resulted in the printer recognizing my new network. But it did! I reset the complete system, then reinstalled the HP app. As a note, the new wifi system has a booster.
Thanks again

This can become a problem: If the printer connects to the main modem it can get IP address "X" and if it connects to a booster then it might get "Y".
If the PC thinks the printer is at "X" then you cannot print even if the printer is online
If this happens then ---
The IP allocation for the printer needs to be fixed, otherwise the IP address of the printer changes depending on which booster it is connected to.
With the printer connected, request a network report and make a note of the Mac or IP address. Then log into the modem and look for that IP (or MAC) address. Find the DHCP server and make the allocation fixed so it aways gets the same IP address when it makes a connection. This could possibly be avoided by using WiFi direct.
Some ISP's have a forum or community where users can get help setting up their printer. Flex systems work great for laptops and smartphones all they have to do is go out to the Internet but for a printer the PC has to go to the modem and then come back to the printer. That's a lot more difficult unless the IP address of the printer is fixed.
