After years of trouble-free use my HP ENVY 5300 is suddenly not communicating with my MAC AIR running latest Tahoe OS. The printer is connected to my wireless but the laptop doesn't see it. I have tried unplugging modem, router, and printer, and plugging back in and still no communication. I tried deleting the printer and adding it back but again it doesn't show up on the list. What can be done to get these devices back in communication?

Thanks for the helpful instruction, but even though the printer still works its wireless capability does not. It’s just caput. The printer is now on its way to recycling and a new one ordered.

Hi @ELFAB
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
We understand the concern. Since the printer remains connected to Wi-Fi but your MacBook Air running macOS Tahoe no longer detects the HP ENVY 5300, the communication path between macOS and the printer likely needs to be refreshed.
Please try the following recommended steps:
On the printer, print a Network Configuration Report and confirm the printer is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as the Mac.
On the Mac, go to System Settings > Wi‑Fi and verify it is connected to the same network band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) as the printer.
Remove any existing HP ENVY 5300 entries:
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners
- Delete all entries for the ENVY 5300
Reset the Mac printing system:
- Open Printers & Scanners
- Right-click (or Ctrl-click) in the printer list
- Select Reset Printing System
- Restart the Mac
Open HP App and run the printer setup again:
- Choose Add Printer
- Allow all requested local network permissions when prompted by macOS
If the printer still does not appear:
- Restart the printer
- On the printer, restore Network Settings and reconnect it to Wi‑Fi
- Run the printer setup again through HP App
Ensure macOS permissions are enabled:
- System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network
- Confirm HP App is allowed to access devices on the network
If the printer is still not discovered after these steps, please share:
- Whether the printer's Wi‑Fi light is solid or blinking
- The printer's IP address from the Network Configuration Report
- Whether HP App detects the printer or reports any specific message
This information will help us identify the next HP troubleshooting steps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
