Hi @Arbind1
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand that the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4388 All-in-One Printer is connected to Windows 11 through USB, but printing does not start and error 0x80040003 appears. Let’s refresh the USB printing configuration and printer software so Windows can establish a clean connection.
Steps to resolve USB printing error 0x80040003
Power reset the printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
- Wait about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and turn on the printer.
- Leave the USB cable disconnected for now.
Remove the existing printer entry
- In Windows 11, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the HP DeskJet printer.
- Choose Remove and confirm.
- Restart the computer.
Reconnect the USB cable
- After Windows has restarted, connect the USB cable directly to a USB port on the computer.
- Avoid a USB hub or docking station during troubleshooting.
- If available, try another USB port on the computer.
Set up the printer using HP app
- Open or install HP app.
- Select Add Printer and complete the printer setup.
- The HP app supports printer setup, driver installation, printing, scanning, and diagnostic functions. HP's official setup page specifically provides USB setup guidance for this printer family.
- If the printer is already shown in HP app, remove it and add it again to refresh the connection.
Run Diagnose & Fix
- Open HP app and select the printer.
- Use the available Diagnose & Fix option.
- Allow HP app to check the printer connection, driver, and printing configuration. HP lists diagnostic support as part of HP app functionality.
Check the Windows print queue
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4388.
- Open the Print queue.
- Cancel any documents that are stuck or showing an error.
- Try printing a simple one-page document again.
Reinstall the printer if the error remains
- Remove the printer again from Printers & scanners.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Restart Windows.
- Open HP app and begin printer setup.
- Connect the USB cable when prompted during setup. HP provides both HP printer setup (USB cable) and HP printer setup (HP app) for the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4300 All-in-One Printer series.
You can also use the official HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4300 All-in-One Printer series Setup page for the installation and USB setup resources.
After completing the reinstall, try printing from a simple application such as Notepad first. If that prints correctly, the USB connection and HP printer software are working properly, and you can then test printing from the application where error 0x80040003 originally appeared.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
