@3rddchance, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Self-Signed Certificates on HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here are the steps to install and renew self-signed certificates on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw so it can communicate securely with your MacBook Pro:

Step 1: Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your MacBook Pro.

Find the printer’s IP address:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Ethernet Settings or Wireless Settings > IPv4 Configuration or IPv6 Configuration.
  • Note the IP address displayed.

Open a web browser on your MacBook Pro and enter the printer’s IP address in the address field. For example: http://192.168.1.2

Step 2: Log in to the EWS

  1. Once you access the printer's EWS, you may need to log in.
    • Default admin credentials can often be found in the printer's user guide, but if you've set a custom password, use those credentials.

Step 3: Manage Certificates

  1. In the EWS, go to the Settings or Security tab.
  2. Look for Certificate Management or SSL Certificate settings.

Step 4: Create and Install Self-Signed Certificate

  1. Navigate to the option for Certificate management.
  2. Create a New Self-Signed Certificate:
    • Choose the option to create a self-signed certificate.
    • Fill in the required information.
    • Once created, you may need to go through a few dialog boxes to confirm and save the new certificate.

Step 5: Download and Install Certificate on MacBook Pro

Download the new certificate:

  • In the EWS, download the newly created self-signed certificate to your MacBook Pro.

Install the certificate on your MacBook Pro:

  • Open Finder, navigate to the Downloads folder, and find the certificate file.
  • Double-click the certificate file to open the Keychain Access app.
  • In Keychain Access, you might need to drag the certificate to the System or Certificates section.
  • Set the certificate to Always Trust by opening the certificate in Keychain Access, expanding the "Trust" section, and changing the settings accordingly.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
