Hi @tparro,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP laptop is having trouble connecting to your HP OfficeJet 6970 printer while other devices are able to connect, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure both your laptop and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes devices can inadvertently connect to different networks or have connectivity issues.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your laptop and the printer. This simple step can often resolve temporary communication issues.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers:

  • Make sure your HP OfficeJet 6970 printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually check for updates through the printer's control panel or HP's support website.
  • Update the printer drivers on your laptop. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause connectivity problems.

Check Firewall and Security Software:

  • Sometimes security software or firewall settings on your laptop can block communication with the printer. Temporarily disable security software to see if it resolves the issue.

Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • On the printer, navigate to the network settings and reset the network configuration. Follow the printer's manual for instructions specific to your model.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the printer software from your laptop and then reinstall it. This can help resolve any corrupted installation issues.

Check IP Address Settings:

  • Ensure that both your laptop and the printer are set to obtain IP addresses automatically (DHCP). Misconfigured IP settings can prevent devices from communicating properly.

Verify Signal Strength:

  • Check the Wi-Fi signal strength near the printer and the laptop. Weak signals can cause intermittent connectivity.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • HP provides a utility called HP Print and Scan Doctor which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Download and run this tool to see if it identifies any issues with your setup.

By systematically checking these points, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the connectivity issue between your HP laptop and OfficeJet 6970 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
