looking for some help on getting my printer to stay online. Can't even get 1 page to print without it disconnecting from my home network. It is connected on the 5GHz and no way to change it to 2.5 GHz which I was wondering if that had anything to do with it.
TIA

Hi @MCOLE19136,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Printer and Router Proximity:
- Ensure the printer is within a reasonable distance from your router to maintain a strong signal. Ideally, place the printer and router in the same room or within one floor of each other.
Switch to 2.4 GHz Band:
- The 2.4 GHz band is more suitable for devices like printers due to better penetration and range. If possible, try connecting your printer to the 2.4 GHz network:
- Access your router settings by typing its IP address into a web browser (usually found on the router or in the manual).
- Ensure your router broadcasts a 2.4 GHz network and try connecting your printer to it by selecting the SSID (network name) associated with 2.4 GHz.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues.
- You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or HP Support website.
Use HP Smart App to Reconnect:
- Open the HP Smart app on your device.
- Go to “Printer Settings” and select “Network” to reconfigure the network connection using the app.
- Follow prompts to connect the printer again.
Change Wireless Channel:
- Interference from neighboring networks can affect connectivity. Changing the wireless channel of your router might help.
- Within your router’s settings, find the option to change the channel, ideally to one less congested (like channels 1, 6, or 11).
Assign a Static IP Address:
- Assigning a static IP can prevent the printer from disconnecting when the network is busy.
- Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (found in settings) and assign it a static IP address within your router’s subnet.
Check Router Settings:
- Ensure your router doesn’t have any firewall settings or configurations that might be blocking the printer’s connection.
- Disable any MAC filtering or ensure the printer’s MAC address is whitelisted.
Restart Devices:
- Regularly restart your printer, router, and laptop to clear any temporary glitches.
I hope this helps.
