This is very frustrating! My hp envy 7640 won't print - a test page goes into the print queue, never prints, & it gets deleted. What the heck am I missing? The printer says it is ready and connected to WiFi.

Hi @Pspin0401,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If your HP Envy 7640 is not printing, and test pages get stuck in the print queue before being deleted, follow these troubleshooting steps:
1. Restart the Printer and Computer
- Touch: Power off the printer and your computer.
- Unplug the printer from the power source for 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and power it on.
- Restart your computer.
- Purpose: This can resolve temporary issues caused by communication errors between devices.
2. Clear the Print Queue
- Touch: On your computer, go to Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners in the Control Panel or Settings.
- Right-click your HP Envy 7640 printer and select See what’s printing.
- Click Printer in the menu and select Cancel All Documents to clear the print queue.
- Purpose: Ensures there are no stuck or corrupted print jobs preventing new ones from printing.
3. Check Printer Status (Wi-Fi Connection)
- Sight: Confirm that your printer is properly connected to Wi-Fi by checking the printer’s control panel. If the connection seems unstable, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network:
- On the printer control panel, go to Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
- Purpose: A weak or unstable Wi-Fi connection can prevent print jobs from reaching the printer.
4. Update or Reinstall Printer Driver
- Go to the HP Support website and search for the latest drivers for the HP Envy 7640.
- Download and install the latest drivers for your operating system (Windows/macOS).
- Optional: Uninstall the printer from your computer and reinstall it through Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners.
- Purpose: Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause communication problems between the computer and the printer.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @Pspin0401,
Please find the remaining steps below.
5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)
- Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website.
- This tool can automatically detect and fix many common printing problems.
- Purpose: Automated troubleshooting of printing issues, such as connectivity or driver-related problems.
6. Disable Print Spooler and Restart
- Steps:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler, right-click on it, and select Stop.
- After it stops, right-click again and select Start.
- Purpose: Restarting the Print Spooler service can clear any issues with the Windows printing system.
7. Try a Different Document
- Touch: Try printing a different file, like a simple text document, to see if it’s an issue with the document you’re trying to print.
- Purpose: Ensures the problem isn’t due to a specific file format or size causing the print job to fail.
8. Check Printer Settings
- Open the Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners settings, right-click your printer, and set it as Default.
- Also, check that the printer is set to Online and not Offline.
9. Check for Paper Jams or Low Ink
- Touch + Sight: Open the printer and ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions.
- Check ink levels to ensure there's enough ink for printing.
If none of these steps solve the issue, the problem could be related to the printer’s internal hardware. Contact phone support for further assistance.
Keep me posted for further assistance
