HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

a couple days ago a firmware update occured automatically - everything was fine before the update - the hp oj pro 8135e was able to connect to my pc/network using ethernet and wireless tho i prefer ethernet. After the firmware update the ethernet connection does not work. i did network configuration report and when connected to ethernet both the wired and wi-fi connection report "gateway reachable error".   How do i get the ethernet connection to work again? I bought this printer last fall specifically because it had ethernet and wi-fi - now it only has wi-fi. Does anyone have a solution?

The same thing happened to me. The Wired Ethernet connection stopped working on my  8138e around beginning of March/2025. I called HP Support and they agreed to send a replacement. Today, March/21/2025, I received the replacement, an 8135e. After setting it up, it got a firmware update a few minutes ago. Then the Wired ethernet stopped working on this replacement printer as well. Seems the reason my original 8138e stopped working was because of the same firmware update that happened around Feb/March.

The firmware version on both is: 6.23.3.71-202502131608

Revision: 6.23.3

Date Code: 202502131608

Previous version: 6.20.1.5-202403010838

Hi @OMD-J, @rnd5

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like the recent firmware update may have caused an issue with the Ethernet functionality on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

Restart Your Printer and Router:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your router and wait for it to fully reboot.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check Ethernet Cable and Port:

  • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the printer and the router.
  • Try using a different Ethernet cable or port on the router to rule out hardware issues.

Reconfigure Network Settings:

  • Access the printer's control panel and navigate to the network settings.
  • Reset the network settings to default and set up the Ethernet connection again.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website to check if a newer firmware version is available that might fix the issue.
  • Download and install the update if available.

Assign a Static IP Address:

  • Log in to your router's settings and assign a static IP address to your printer.
  • Update the printer's network settings to use this static IP.

Perform a Factory Reset:

  • If the issue persists, perform a factory reset on the printer. This will restore all settings to default, so you'll need to reconfigure the network settings afterward.
