@DavidPenP, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're having trouble with HP Smart not detecting your HP ENVY 4500 printer, even though it's connected to Wi-Fi. Let's walk through some steps to get your printer back online and recognized by HP Smart.

Restart Devices

  • Power off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device.
  • After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in and power it on.

Check Printer’s Wi-Fi Connection

  • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button to ensure it's connected.
  • Print a Wireless Network Test Report:
    • Press the Wireless and Start Copy Black buttons together.
    • This will print a report showing the connection status.

3. Re-add Printer in HP Smart

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Click the plus (+) sign to add a new printer.
  • If your printer doesn’t appear, click Set Up a New Printer and follow the prompts.

Assign a Static IP (Advanced)

If the issue persists, assigning a static IP can help:

  • Access your printer’s IP address via the Wireless Test Report.
  • Enter the IP in a browser to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Navigate to Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration.
  • Set a manual IP and save.

Reinstall HP Smart

  • Uninstall and reinstall the HP Smart app. HP Smart
  • Sign in and try adding the printer again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
