Hi @Elaine1950,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your computer is having trouble detecting your HP printer. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue.
- Check Connection: Ensure that your printer is powered on and connected to the same network as your computer. If it's a USB-connected printer, make sure the USB cable is securely plugged into both the printer and the computer.
- Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart of both your computer and printer can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off both devices, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on.
- Update Drivers: Outdated printer drivers can cause connectivity problems. Visit the HP support website, search for your printer model, and download the latest drivers for your operating system.
- Run Printer Troubleshooter: Most operating systems, including Windows and macOS, have built-in printer troubleshooters. Run these tools to diagnose and potentially fix any issues automatically.
- Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, security software can block communication between your computer and printer. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus software (if safe) to see if it resolves the issue.
- Reinstall Printer: If none of the above steps work, try removing the printer from your computer's printer list and then reinstalling it. Go to your computer's settings, find the printer section, and delete your printer. Then, re-add it using the "Add a printer" wizard.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
