Hi @malachinski,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're receiving a message that features are locked on your HP printer, it could be due to a few reasons, such as the printer being connected to an HP Smart account or a security setting restricting access. Here's how you can attempt to reset the printer and unlock the features.

Factory Reset via Printer Control Panel

Most HP printers allow you to reset settings directly from the control panel. Here’s a general method:

For printers with a touchscreen display:

  1. Go to Settings or Setup.
  2. Select Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  3. Look for Restore Defaults or Factory Reset and select it.
  4. Follow any on-screen instructions to confirm the reset.

For printers without a touchscreen:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Hold down the Resume button (the button with a red triangle) while turning the printer on.
  3. Release the Resume button when the printer starts its reset process.

Resetting via HP Smart App

If your printer is connected to the HP Smart App, try the following:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your smartphone or computer.
  2. Select the printer you are having trouble with.
  3. Go to Advanced Settings or Printer Settings.
  4. Look for an option to Reset Printer or Restore Defaults.

Hard Reset by Power Cycling

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for about 60 seconds to ensure it’s completely powered down.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. Check if the features are still locked and try to restore settings.

Reset via HP Website (if your printer is cloud-enabled)

If your printer is connected to HP’s cloud services, visit the HP support site, sign in with your HP account, and check if there’s an option to reset or unlock your printer remotely.

Reset Network Settings

If the lock issue is network-related:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Network Settings.
  3. Look for Restore Network Defaults or Reset Network Settings.
  4. This will reset Wi-Fi and network configurations to factory settings.

Check for Lock on HP Instant Ink or Account

If you're using HP Instant Ink, some features might be locked due to account settings. You can log in to your HP account and manage features from there.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
