HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
macOS 12.0 Monterey

My HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer stopped working.  Usually, all I had to do to get it working again was find my network on the printer and enter my password or turn off the printer and start it again, and it would usually begin printing wireless again.

Now when I go to my setup menu on the printer and press Network-Wireless, I get an error saying, "The feature has been locked by you system administrator or the person who set up the printer."  There is also a lock symbol on Wireless, Wireless Direct, and Wireless Setup Wizard...

I spoke with HP printing department, and they said my printer stopped and locked because it is too old.  It's not that old to stop working.

Can someone please help?

Thank you!

I see that you are facing connectivity issues with HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Printer.

Please follow the steps below:

 1) Launch the HP Smart app.

2) Tap on the printer icon.

3) Tap on "Advanced Settings" located under "Advanced". This will launch the EWS page.

4) Expand "Network" and then tap on "Wi-Fi Direct" > Status > "Edit Settings" to change the password.

Try connecting the printer again.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I am having this issue because we got a new router in the office.  This solution did not work because it cannot find the printer on the network in order to change the password.  It is also ridiculous that the printer could be "locked by administrator" just because it is old.

THIS worked

- Go to Setup

- Choose Network

- Scroll to bottom and choose Restore Network Defaults

Tada!  Now I can connect to the new router.
