I get the "Fill Ink Tanks" message, even after I filled all four ink tanks.  I can't get past this message on my printer.

Possibly the PC either has or simply gets old information from the printer when you check the ink levels.

  1. Unplug printer from the wall outlet.
  2. If the power cord has a transformer (wall wart) unplug from the printer also.
  3. Press the power button 2-3 times to discharge residual electricity.
  4. Wait 60 second then plug back in and turn on.
  5. Reboot your PC.

Another possibility is the electrical contacts on the cartridge (or the printhead) have ink debris, or tape / glue residue.

Let me know what you find out.

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly on my issue.  I did everything you suggested except looking at/cleaning the print head.  No change in anything.  I located the printhead.  While I was in there, I noticed some air in the clear line that carries the black ink to the printhead.  Is this normal?  When I first started getting the fill ink tanks message, the black ink was the only one that was very low.  Any connection with this?

Bubbles in the tube will cause problems.  I do not know how to remove them.  Recently someone suggested turning the printer on the side WHICH IS NOT THE WAY TO TO REMOVE BUBBLES.

That actually works if air bubbles are in one of those hybrid GPU cards that are liquid cooled, it will not work on a printer..

I found this by asking an AI

I asked about the 5001 model since I have that one and was given this simpler answer (for the 5100 !?)
