Microsoft Windows 11

I'd like to reset all settings on my printer so I can re-enter the wifi SSID and password. I recently changed my password. I can't get into the menu, it asks for a password. I can't change settings via IP address menu, also asks for a password. When connected via USB and using HP software, I hit the "convert connect USB printer to wifi" and it picks up no SSIDs (I know they are there) and won't take my SSID when I type it in.

Hi @mrdrew_1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Resetting the settings on your HP MFP M148FDW printer may require a few steps, and it's important to note that resetting your printer will erase all existing settings, including any wireless configuration. Here's how you can perform a factory reset.

Hard Reset

  • a. Turn off your printer.
  • b. Disconnect any USB cables or Ethernet cables connected to the printer.
  • c. Wait for about 30 seconds to ensure that the printer is completely powered down.
  • d. Turn on the printer while holding down both the "Cancel" button and the "Wireless" button simultaneously.
  • e. Keep holding the buttons until the printer's control panel lights flash.

Default Password: After performing the hard reset, you can access the printer's settings using the default admin password. The default password is usually found in the printer's manual or on a label on the printer itself. Common default passwords are "admin," "password," or "12345." Check your printer's documentation for the specific default password.

Access the Menu: Once you have the default password, use it to access the printer's menu. Navigate to the network settings, and you should be able to enter your new Wi-Fi SSID and password.

Reconfigure Wi-Fi: After resetting and re-entering your Wi-Fi information, the printer should be able to connect to your new Wi-Fi network.

If the above steps do not work, you can also try the following:

HP Smart App (Mobile Device): You can use the HP Smart app on your mobile device to set up your printer wirelessly. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Web Interface: If you're able to access the printer's web interface via its IP address, you can try resetting the network settings from there. However, you may still need the default admin password to access these settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
