@Managua1962, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
Here's how you can connect your HP printer to your new Mac:
Step-by-Step: Connect HP Printer to Mac
Option 1: Use AirPrint (Recommended for Most Users)
Ensure Printer is On and Connected:
- Wi-Fi Printers: Connect the printer to the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac.
- For touchscreen printers: Go to Wireless Setup Wizard in the printer's settings.
- For non-touchscreen printers: Press and hold the Wireless button until the light blinks, then press the WPS button on your router.
- USB Printers: Simply connect the printer to your Mac using a USB cable.
Check for Printer in System Settings:
- On your Mac, go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- If your printer appears in the list, you're ready to print!
- If not, click Add Printer, select your printer from the list, and follow the prompts.
Print a Test Page:
- Open any document, click File > Print, and select your printer.

Option 2: Use HP Smart App (For More Features)
- Download the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store.
- Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.
- This app also provides scanning, ink levels, and troubleshooting tools.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Make sure your Mac is updated: Apple Menu > System Settings > General > Software Update.
- Restart your printer and Mac if the printer doesn’t show up.
- If using USB, try a different port or cable.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
