Hi @eryt ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand T-Mobile support might have mentioned needing to set up your HP ENVY 5535 e-All-in-One Printer on their network by ensuring the correct MAC address (hardware address) is used or that some configuration is needed on your gateway/router.
Here's a guide to help you connect your printer to T-Mobile's Internet service:
Steps to Connect HP ENVY 5535 to T-Mobile Gateway
Check Printer Compatibility:
- Ensure your HP ENVY 5535 printer supports the 2.4 GHz band, as many printers don't support 5 GHz. T-Mobile gateways typically support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, but make sure the 2.4 GHz is enabled.
Find the Printer's MAC (Hardware) Address:
- Sometimes you need the printer's MAC address to register it manually in your router's settings. Here's how you can find it:
- On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Network Settings > Wi-Fi Direct (or Wireless Settings).
- Print a network configuration or test page, which should list the MAC Address of your printer.
Login to T-Mobile Gateway:
- Open a web browser on your computer and go to http://192.168.12.1 (this is the default for T-Mobile gateways).
- Login with the default credentials (admin for both username and password unless changed).
Assign the Printer's MAC Address:
- If T-Mobile support mentioned needing to change the MAC address, this may involve either enabling or adjusting MAC filtering (a security setting in the router that restricts devices allowed on the network).
- Look for a MAC Filtering or Access Control setting in the gateway’s admin interface.
- Add your printer's MAC address to the whitelist (allowed devices list).
Disable MAC Filtering Temporarily (if applicable):
- If MAC filtering is turned on, temporarily disable it to see if the printer connects without it.
Manually Connect Printer to Wi-Fi:
- On the printer's screen, go to Wireless Setup Wizard under the Network or Wireless settings.
- Find and select your T-Mobile Wi-Fi network.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password (the one provided by T-Mobile).
- Once connected, the printer should display a message indicating successful connection.
Ensure Proper IP Configuration:
- If needed, manually assign an IP address to your printer within the router’s DHCP settings. This ensures the printer gets the same IP each time it connects, preventing issues.
Additional Tips:
- Wi-Fi Direct Mode: If standard Wi-Fi connection fails, try using Wi-Fi Direct mode, which allows direct communication between the printer and your computer without going through the router.
- Restart Devices: After making changes, restart both the T-Mobile gateway and the printer to apply the settings.

I hope this helps.
