I have Spectrum wireless streaming to my iMac Desktop Computer. I am having difficulty setting up the HP Officejet Pro 8600 for printing. There is a proxy number to enter that I cannot find under settings. Can you please offer any suggestions?

Hi @jbrown98
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're trying to set up your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer to print wirelessly with your iMac connected to a Spectrum wireless network, but you're running into issues. Specifically, you're having trouble locating a proxy number that might be part of the setup process.
Let’s break this down and guide you through the steps to get your printer connected wirelessly to your network and ready to print from your iMac.
Step 1: Make Sure Your Printer is Connected to the Same Wi-Fi Network
Ensure that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 is connected to the same Wi-Fi network that your iMac is on. Here’s how to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi:
On the Printer's Control Panel:
- Press the Wireless icon on the printer’s touchscreen (or go to Setup > Network > Wireless Settings).
- Choose Wireless Setup Wizard. This will scan for available networks.
- Select your Spectrum Wi-Fi network from the list and enter the Wi-Fi password if prompted.
If your printer connects successfully, the wireless icon should display as solid on the printer screen.
Step 2: Add the Printer to Your iMac
Now that your printer is connected to your network, it’s time to add it to your iMac.
- Open the Apple Menu and go to System Preferences.
- Select Printers & Scanners.
- Click the + button to add a printer.
- Your HP Officejet Pro 8600 should appear in the list of available printers. Select it.
- If prompted, the iMac should automatically download and install the appropriate HP drivers for the printer.
Once added, you should be able to select the printer when you print from any application.
Step 3: Set Up HP Smart (Optional but Recommended)
The HP Smart app is a great way to manage and troubleshoot your printer, and it can also help with wireless setup. You can download it from the Mac App Store.
- Install HP Smart on your iMac.
- Open the app and sign in (or create an HP account if you don't have one).
- The app should detect your HP Officejet Pro 8600 if it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- You can use HP Smart to print, scan, and troubleshoot any issues.
I hope this helps.
