HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e All-in-One Printer

Why, every time after I reboot my computer and then select "print" does the "destination" always revert back to "save to PDF" only and not to a previously and exclusively selected printer?

Hi @smeyer1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e printer defaulting to "Save to PDF" instead of the previously selected printer after a computer reboot may be related to your printer settings or the configuration of your printing system.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Check Default Printer Setting:

  • On Windows:
    • Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners."
    • Ensure that your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e is set as the default printer.
  • On macOS:
    • Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners."
    • Select your HP printer and click the "Set as Default" button.

Printer Software/Driver Update:

  • Ensure that you have the latest drivers and software installed for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e printer. Visit the HP website to download the most recent driver for your specific printer model.

Printer Queue Status:

  • Check the printer queue to see if there are any pending print jobs stuck in the queue. If so, clear them and restart the printer.

Restart the Print Spooler Service:

  • On Windows:
    • Type "Services" in the Windows search bar and open the "Services" app.
    • Find "Print Spooler" in the list of services, right-click it, and select "Restart."
  • On macOS:
    • Restarting the print spooler on macOS usually isn't necessary, but you can try restarting your Mac.

Check for Third-Party Printing Software:

  • Sometimes third-party printing software can interfere with default printer settings. Ensure you're not using any such software or try disabling it temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.

Reset Printing Preferences:

  • If the problem persists, you can try resetting the printing preferences for your applications. This might involve going into the application's settings and looking for any printer-related preferences or settings that could be causing the issue.

Operating System Updates:

  • Ensure your operating system is up to date with the latest updates and patches. Sometimes, OS updates can resolve printer-related issues.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • HP provides a tool called "HP Print and Scan Doctor" that can help diagnose and resolve printer issues. Download and run this tool to see if it identifies any problems with your printer setup.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e defaulting to "Save to PDF" after a computer reboot and ensure that your selected printer remains the default choice.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
