Hi @wong50 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you’re out of town and your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 printer is offline, there are a couple of ways you can try to reboot or reconnect it remotely, provided you have certain settings enabled on your network:
1. Remote Reboot via Smart Plug
If your printer is connected to a smart plug that you can control remotely, you can turn the plug off and then back on to effectively reboot the printer.
2. HP Smart App HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
If your printer is connected to the HP Smart app, you may be able to use it to check on the printer's status and troubleshoot remotely. However, the app doesn’t have a direct reboot feature, so this is limited to checking if the printer can reconnect to WiFi.
3. Router Reboot (if needed)
If you have remote access to your router (such as through an app or web interface), try rebooting it. This may help reconnect the printer to the network. Some routers offer device management features that let you power cycle connected devices, though this is rare.
4. Use Printer’s Web Interface (if set up) Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
If you’ve set up the printer’s web server (EWS) and have the printer’s IP address, you can try accessing the printer settings remotely to troubleshoot connectivity.

I hope this helps.
