Where do I find the password for HP 4255e? There is a PIN on a label in the ink cartridge door, but it doesn't work.

Hi @Zanna3

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If the PIN on the label inside the ink cartridge door isn't working, you might need the default Wi-Fi Direct password or network credentials for your HP DeskJet 4255e.

Here's how to locate it:

1. Print a Network Configuration or Information Sheet

  • Press and hold the Information button (or similar) on your printer's control panel until a page prints.
  • The default Wi-Fi password or network details are usually listed on this sheet.

2. Check the Printer Display or HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart App on your computer or smartphone (download it if you haven’t already).
  • Add your printer, then check the settings for Wi-Fi Direct or network information.

3. Restore Network Settings

If the password was changed and you're unable to access it:

  • Reset the network settings by pressing and holding the Wi-Fi button and Cancel button together for 5 seconds. This restores the printer to default network settings.

4. Access Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  • Temporarily connect your device to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network (often named "HP-Setup-[printer-model]").
  • Open a web browser and type 192.168.223.1 to access the Embedded Web Server.
  • Navigate to the network settings to view or set a new password.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
