HP OfficeJet 5258 All-in-One Printer

My printer will not print from my iMac. I recently got a new router, network, and password. Both printer and computer are connected. My hp account shows the printer is connected. My computer settings shows its there. But I cannot print a document from the computer. I get a message: The printer is not responding.

I've tried everything I can think of and gone in circles with all the help online but nothing has worked.

Hi @JamesEarly,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect your HP OfficeJet 5258 All-In-One Printer to your iMac, you can follow these steps.

Unpack and Prepare the Printer:

  • Unbox your HP OfficeJet 5258 and remove all the packing materials.
  • Plug in the printer and power it on. Make sure it has ink cartridges and paper loaded.

Connect to Wi-Fi:

  • Use the printer's control panel to connect it to your Wi-Fi network. Navigate through the settings on the printer to find the Wi-Fi setup option.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your Wi-Fi network. You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password.

Driver Installation on iMac:

  • Your iMac should automatically detect the printer on the same Wi-Fi network. However, you may need to install the printer drivers if they are not already installed. Here's how:
    • Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your iMac and select "System Preferences."
    • Click on "Printers & Scanners" or "Print & Scan" (depending on your macOS version).
    • If your printer is not listed on the left-hand side, click the '+' button to add it.
    • Your printer should appear in the list of available printers. Select it and click "Add."

Test the Connection:

  • To make sure your iMac is successfully connected to the printer, try printing a test page or a document. You can do this from any application that supports printing, such as a web browser or a word processor.
  • Select "Print" from the application's File menu, choose your HP OfficeJet 5258 as the printer, and click "Print."

Additional Features and Settings:

  • You can access the printer's settings and features through the "Printers & Scanners" or "Print & Scan" preferences on your iMac. This is where you can configure things like print quality, paper size, and more.

Scanning and Faxing (optional):

  • If your HP OfficeJet 5258 supports scanning and faxing and you wish to use these features, you can install the relevant software or drivers provided by HP on your iMac. You can usually find this software on the HP website.

That's it! Your HP OfficeJet 5258 should now be connected and ready to print from your iMac.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
