Hi @Doug3232

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code CF.BD.9E.0B typically appears on HP printers, including some models in the OfficeJet and Envy series, and can be related to a variety of issues, such as problems with the printer's firmware, internal hardware, or software conflicts. Since it’s preventing your printer from restarting, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer (Hard Reset)

Sometimes a simple reset can help clear the error. Here's how to perform a hard reset:

  • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.Unplug the power cable from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute.Plug the printer back into the wall outlet and reconnect the power cable.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions

A paper jam or obstruction inside the printer could trigger various error codes:

  • Check the paper tray to ensure no paper is jammed.
  • Open the printer doors (such as the ink cartridge door or rear access door) and carefully inspect the printer for any stuck paper or debris.
  • Gently remove any paper or obstructions you find and close all doors securely.

3. Reset Printer to Factory Defaults

If a power cycle doesn't resolve the issue, you can try restoring your printer to its factory settings. Keep in mind this will erase all custom settings (such as network connections), and you’ll need to set them up again.

Steps to restore to factory settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Settings or Setup.Select Printer Maintenance or Restore.
  • Look for the Restore Factory Defaults option and follow the on-screen prompts.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Firmware

Firmware issues can cause errors like this. You can update your printer’s firmware either through the printer’s control panel or via the HP Smart app or website.

  • Via HP Smart (if accessible):
    • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or phone.Check for available firmware updates. If available, follow the instructions to update the firmware.
  • Via Printer Control Panel (if accessible):
    • Go to Settings > Printer Update.Check if there’s an option to update your printer’s firmware.

5. Check for Faulty Ink Cartridges or Printhead Issues

Faulty or improperly seated ink cartridges or printhead issues can trigger various errors:

  • Check ink cartridges to ensure they are properly installed and are not damaged.
  • Try removing and reinserting the ink cartridges.
  • If you suspect an issue with the printhead, carefully clean it according to the printer’s manua

I hope this helps.
