Hi @jenny223
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
This sounds frustrating—let's troubleshoot together! Here are some steps you can try:
Check Wi-Fi Connectivity: Ensure both your HP printer and your MacBook are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes devices connect to different bands (like 2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz), which can cause detection issues.
Restart Devices: Turn off your printer, MacBook, and Wi-Fi router. Wait for a minute, then turn them back on. This can resolve many connectivity issues.
Add Printer Manually:
- On your MacBook, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the "+" button to add a new printer.
- Look for your printer in the list and select it. If it doesn't appear, check if it has an IP address assigned (you can find this on your printer's screen or settings menu) and add it using the "IP" tab.
Update Drivers: Check if your MacBook and printer have the latest software updates installed.
- For MacBook: Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
- For HP Printer: Visit the HP Support website, download the latest drivers, and install them.
Check Firewall Settings: A firewall on your MacBook might block the printer. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall and temporarily disable it to see if it resolves the issue.
HP Smart App: Download the HP Smart App on your MacBook from the App Store. It can help diagnose and fix connection issues.
Reset Printing System (as a last resort):
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
- Add your printer again.
If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
Regards,
