Hi @angelatodd,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Color LaserJet printer is showing as idle and has a blank display screen, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
Check Connections:
- Ensure all cables are securely connected (power and USB/Network).
- If using a network connection, ensure the printer is connected to the network.
Check for Error Lights:
- Look for any LED indicator lights on the printer. If any lights are blinking or on, refer to the printer's manual for their meanings.
Reset the Printer:
- If your printer has a reset option, you can try restoring factory settings. This option may vary based on the model.
- To reset, go into the printer settings using the control panel, if accessible, or refer to the manual for the specific reset process.
Update Drivers:
- Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can find the latest drivers on the HP support website.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Visit the HP support website to check for any available firmware updates for your printer model.
Clear Print Queue:
- On your computer, go to "Devices and Printers," right-click on your printer, and select "See what's printing." Clear any documents in the print queue.
Perform a Self-Test:
- If your printer has a self-test or demo page option, try printing one to see if the printer is functioning properly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
