Hi @T-Bark
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is only printing test pages and not printing other documents, this can be caused by a variety of factors. Let’s troubleshoot and identify the issue step by step:
1. Check the Printer's Status
- Ensure that the printer is not displaying any errors or warnings on the printer display (if applicable).
- Check that there are no paper jams and that the ink or toner levels are sufficient.
- Ensure the printer is online and not in an error state (offline or paused).
2. Check the Print Queue
Sometimes a document may get stuck in the print queue, preventing the printer from processing new print jobs.
Steps to check the print queue:
- Open the Print Queue: On Windows, go to Start > Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click your printer and choose See what's printing.
- If there are any documents stuck in the queue, click on them and cancel or delete the print jobs.
- After clearing the queue, try printing again.
3. Restart the Printer and Computer
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait a minute, then turn it back on.
- Restart the Computer: Sometimes, restarting your computer can resolve communication issues between the printer and the computer.
4. Check Printer Connection
Make sure that the printer is properly connected to the computer, whether through Wi-Fi, USB, or Ethernet.
- If using Wi-Fi, ensure that the printer is connected to the correct network.
- If using USB, check that the USB cable is securely connected and not damaged.
5. Reinstall Printer Drivers
Corrupted or outdated drivers can cause printing issues.
To reinstall drivers:
- Uninstall the Printer: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Remove device.
- Download Latest Drivers: Visit the manufacturer's website (HP, Canon, etc.) to download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Reinstall the Printer: After downloading the drivers, reinstall the printer and follow the setup instructions.
6. Set the Printer as Default
If you have multiple printers installed, make sure the correct printer is set as the default one.
To set the default printer:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click on your desired printer and select Set as default.
I hope this helps.
