Before we got a new wifi gateway, my printer and chromebook connected wirelessly. Now they don't at all and I can't even get them to connect using a USB cable. I've done all the settings-advanced-printers-save business....Printer and computer will not communicate wirelessly. So I bought a USB printer cord. Set that up when I plugged it into the chromebook. Printer came right up and the dot was green indicating it was connected and ready. When I hit print, however, nothing. I get an error message saying the printer isn't connected. HOW?????? It's connected with a USB cable.

Hi @nohelp4thcoming,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's frustrating to experience connectivity issues with your printer and Chromebook. Let's troubleshoot the problem step by step.
Wireless Connection:
Check Wi-Fi Settings:
- Make sure that both your printer and Chromebook are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Confirm that the Wi-Fi settings on your printer are configured correctly, considering the new Wi-Fi gateway.
Restart Devices:
- Turn off both the printer and Chromebook.
- Turn them back on after a minute and see if the wireless connection is established.
Reconfigure Wi-Fi:
- On your printer, navigate to the wireless settings and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Check if there are any firmware updates for your HP DeskJet 2652 printer. Update if necessary.
USB Connection:
Check USB Connection:
- Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the Chromebook.
USB Settings on Printer:
- Some printers have settings to switch between USB and wireless connections. Check your printer settings to ensure it's set to accept USB connections.
Install Printer Drivers:
- Make sure that you have the correct printer drivers installed on your Chromebook. Sometimes, the operating system might need specific drivers to communicate with the printer.
Try Another USB Port:
- If available, try using a different USB port on your Chromebook.
Printer Queue:
- Check the printer queue on your Chromebook. Sometimes, print jobs get stuck in the queue and can cause issues with new print jobs.
Printer Default Setting:
- Set your printer as the default printer on your Chromebook. Sometimes, print jobs may be sent to a different printer by default.
Test Print:
- Attempt to print a test page directly from the printer. This can help determine if the issue is with the Chromebook or the printer itself.
Additional Steps:
Chromebook Updates:
- Make sure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS.
Printer App:
- Consider using the HP Print Service Plugin or a similar app on your Chromebook to manage the printer.
By going through these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with the wireless or USB connection between your HP DeskJet 2652 printer and Chromebook.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
