Hi @jllwine ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw won’t turn on. Let’s walk through a few troubleshooting steps to determine whether the issue can be resolved:
Steps to Try:
Check the Power Source:
- Ensure the printer is properly plugged into a functioning outlet.
- If possible, plug another device into the same outlet to confirm it’s working.
- Test a different outlet, just to rule out the power source.
Inspect the Power Cord:
- You've mentioned changing cords, but ensure the connection is firm and the power cord you're using is compatible with the printer.
- If the printer has a power adapter, ensure it's not damaged.
Reset the Printer:
- Unplug the printer from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds, then press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds (if applicable).
- Plug the printer back in and try turning it on.
Check for Any Signs of Life:
- Listen for any faint sounds or see if the display lights up even briefly when pressing the power button.
Ensure No Power-Saving Mode is Active:
- Sometimes the printer can enter sleep or power-saving mode. Try waking it by pressing the power button multiple times.
Check for Circuit Breaker Issues:
- In rare cases, a tripped breaker could cause power issues. Check your breaker panel to ensure everything is working properly.
