Hi @mymy215,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It sounds frustrating that your HP DeskJet Plus 4140 is not printing and is giving you issues with the Ink subscription, even after you’ve tried updating it. Let's work through a few steps to see if we can resolve this.

  • Are you still seeing any error messages related to your HP Instant Ink subscription, or is the issue only occurring after you canceled the service?
  • Are there any other issues, like a paper jam, or does the printer simply fail to start the print job without any other feedback?
  • Have you tried printing directly from a different device, such as another computer or mobile phone, to see if the issue is related to one specific device?

Let's try these steps.

Check Printer Status and Connection: Even though the printer shows it's connected to the internet, make sure it is still properly connected to your Wi-Fi network. Try printing a test page from the printer’s control panel. If it fails, you may want to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network by following these steps:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Setup Wizard and reconnect it to your network.

Cancel and Reset HP Instant Ink Enrollment: Since you canceled your Instant Ink subscription, the printer may be trying to access an old service. Visit the HP Instant Ink website and double-check that your printer is not enrolled in the program. If necessary, fully cancel your subscription from there and remove any linked payment methods.

Manually Refill or Replace Ink Cartridges: If you’ve canceled HP Instant Ink and the printer requires a certain level of ink for it to work, ensure that you have inserted genuine ink cartridges and that they are properly installed. Sometimes, the printer will stop printing if it detects low or incompatible ink cartridges.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults: Performing a factory reset can help clear any software issues that might be preventing printing. On your printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults. Afterward, reconnect it to your Wi-Fi and try printing again.

Update or Reinstall Printer Software: It’s possible that outdated or corrupted software could be causing the issue. Uninstall any HP software from your computer and reinstall it by downloading the latest version from the official HP website. This ensures that you have the most up-to-date drivers and software for your printer.

If the problem persists after these steps, it might be helpful to check if there are any specific messages or alerts on the printer's control panel that can guide us further.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
