Hi @yaronbaroz,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error "The HP imaging device was not found" usually indicates a problem with the communication between your computer and the HP OfficeJet Pro 9120 series printer, particularly with the scanning function. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check the Basics
- Ensure the printer is powered on and properly connected to your computer via USB or Wi-Fi.
- Verify that the printer is not in sleep mode.
2. Restart Printer and Computer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for at least 60 seconds.
- Restart your computer.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
3. Check HP Software Installation
- Make sure you've installed the full-feature HP driver and software for your OfficeJet Pro 9120 series. If not:
- Go to the HP Support page.
- Download and install the HP Smart app or the full-feature driver package for your printer model.
- During installation, follow the prompts to set up both printing and scanning.
4. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool.
- Follow the tool's instructions to diagnose and fix issues with scanning.
5. Verify Windows Services
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Locate the following services and ensure they are running and set to "Automatic":
- Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
- Shell Hardware Detection
- If a service is stopped, right-click it and select "Start."
6. Check Connection for Scanning
- For USB connections:
- Try a different USB port on your computer.
- Use a direct connection (avoid USB hubs or extenders).
- For network connections:
- Confirm the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- Test the connection by printing a document.
- Run a ping test to ensure your computer can communicate with the printer.
7. Use an Alternate Scanning Application
- Open Windows Fax and Scan or the HP Smart app and try scanning.
- If this works, the issue might be with the HP software.
8. Update Firmware
- Refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware
9. Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Uninstall the existing printer software:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Locate and uninstall any HP-related software.
- Reinstall the full-feature driver from HP's website.
10. Test Scanning with HP Scan
- Open HP Scan or the HP Smart app to test scanning.
- If the issue persists, try scanning from the printer's control panel.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day
