Hi @Reynolds42,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble scanning from your printer to your computer, there are several potential issues and solutions you can try:
1. Check Printer and Scanner Connections
- Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
- If you're using a USB connection, try a different USB port or cable.
2. Ensure Printer is Set Up Properly
- Verify that the printer's scanner function is set up correctly. Check the printer’s settings or control panel for any required setup steps.
3. Install or Update Printer Drivers
- Make sure you have the latest drivers for your printer. Visit the printer manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers and software for your specific model.
- Sometimes, reinstalling the printer drivers can resolve scanning issues.
4. Check for Software
- Ensure you have the necessary scanning software installed. Many printers come with their own scanning software (like HP Smart, Epson Scan, Canon IJ Scan Utility, etc.).
- If you don’t have the software installed, download and install it from the manufacturer’s website.
5. Select the Correct Scanner
- Open the scanning software on your computer and ensure that your printer/scanner is selected as the device. Sometimes the wrong device may be selected.
6. Check for Errors or Warnings
- Look at the printer’s display screen or control panel for any error messages or warnings that might indicate what the problem is.
7. Firewall or Antivirus Software
- Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block the communication between your scanner and computer. Temporarily disable them to see if this resolves the issue. Be sure to re-enable them afterward.
8. Perform a Scan Test
- Try performing a test scan directly from the printer’s control panel, if it has one. This can help determine if the issue is with the printer’s scanning function or the communication between the printer and computer.
9. Check Network Connection (for Networked Printers)
- Ensure that both your printer and computer are connected to the same network. If you’re using a Wi-Fi connection, verify that the printer has a stable connection to the network.
10. Restart Devices
- Restart both your printer and computer. Sometimes, a reboot can resolve connectivity and communication issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
