why is it made so difficult to reconnect to wifi with your printer?
This is a major negative for me inspite of all the supposed benefits of HP smart.
I would rather do without it at this rate.
Any suggestions or experience worth sharing to help?
I have reset printer and wifi severally over the past one and half weeks without success.

Hi @fjqy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be to reconnect your printer to Wi-Fi, especially without an LED screen to guide you. Here are some methods to help you reconnect your HP printer to Wi-Fi:
Method 1: Use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)
If your router supports WPS, this can be the easiest way to connect:
Find the WPS Button:
- Look for a physical button labeled "WPS" on your router.
Put the Printer in WPS Mode:
- On your printer, press and hold the Wi-Fi button (or the wireless button) until the wireless light starts blinking. This indicates that the printer is in WPS mode.
Press the WPS Button:
- Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router. The printer should connect automatically.
Method 2: Using HP Smart App (Mobile)
If you have access to a smartphone or tablet, you can use the HP Smart app:
Download the HP Smart App:
- Install the HP Smart app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
Add Your Printer:
- Open the app and tap on the plus sign (+) to add your printer.
- Follow the prompts to connect your printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Method 3: USB Connection (Temporary)
If the above methods don’t work, you can temporarily connect your printer to your computer via USB:
Connect the Printer via USB:
- Plug the printer into your computer using a USB cable.
Install the Printer:
- Your computer should detect the printer. If prompted, install any necessary drivers.
Use HP Software:
- Open the HP software on your computer (if installed) or download it from the HP support site.
- Use the software to configure the printer’s wireless settings and connect to your Wi-Fi.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- After successfully connecting, you can unplug the USB cable, and the printer should now connect wirelessly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
