router password entry

how do  you enter a router password when the option is "def" and when you touch it it gives you "d" but you need "e"?

I understand the confusion. On the HP Officejet 5255, the touchscreen keyboard uses multi-tap entry, similar to an older mobile phone keypad. If the key shows “def”, tapping it repeatedly cycles through the letters:

When the def key is displayed:

1. Tap once → d
2. Tap twice quickly → e
3. Tap three times quickly → f
4. If applicable, continue through the available characters shown for that key.

So, if your Wi-Fi password contains a lowercase e, tap def twice quickly until e appears.

For uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols

If your Wi-Fi password contains other character types:

• Use Shift (↑) for an uppercase letter, if shown.
• Use 123 or the symbols keyboard to enter numbers and special characters, if available.
• Enter the password exactly as shown. Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive.

If the password still will not enter correctly

If you are having difficulty with the touchscreen keyboard, you can also set up the OfficeJet 5255 from a computer or mobile device using the HP app, which can make entering a long Wi-Fi password easier.
 

Once the complete password is entered correctly, confirm it and allow the printer to connect to the router. The printer should then show that it is connected to the wireless network.
