Common problems for Connectivity Issues

Smart HP seems unable to find any localization information to install my new DeskJet 4220e printer.

I’ve tried everything: I made sure the app has all the required permissions, and in Windows I enabled location access for the app. I restarted several times, reinstalled the HP Smart app, even updated the BIOS and all the software on both Windows and HP, but nothing worked.

I also tried installing the printer the same way on my other PC running Windows 10, and the setup went flawlessly in just 5 minutes. So, at this point, the issue must be with this relatively new laptop, but I can’t figure out what it is.

By USB I can install the printer without any problem, but I need it to be connected wirelessly. Can someone help me? Thanks!

Hi @diegogiova,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Smart App installation issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Windows Location Settings:

  • Double-check that Windows location services are enabled for all apps, and specifically for the HP Smart app.
  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Location and ensure that the "Allow apps to access your location" switch is turned on.

Ensure Regional Settings Are Correct:

  • Verify that your Windows regional settings match your actual location. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Region, and confirm your location and language are correctly set.

Use Direct USB Connection:

  • Temporarily connect the printer via USB. This may allow the printer to install correctly without relying on localization information.

Turn Off VPN/Proxy Services:

  • If you are using any VPN or proxy services, try disabling them temporarily, as they can affect location services.

Network Configuration:

  • Make sure both your PC and printer are on the same network. Double-check the Wi-Fi settings to ensure the printer is connected to the right network.

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Use the Windows troubleshooter to detect and fix issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot and run the troubleshooter for printers.

Check for Security Software:

  • Disable any firewall or security software temporarily that may be blocking the HP Smart app from accessing the printer.

HP Assistant:

  • Use HP Support Assistant for additional diagnostics on connectivity and location. It could provide more specific guidance based on your system and setup.

I hope this helps.
