my hp printer (Officejet 7610) still won't recognize my wifi and using a cord with my Chromebook wouldn't work either (it never gave me the option to print, only save); So...i now have an hp laptop 17-ca1007ca and I'm still thinking old school and expected an ethernet. In the absence of one, how to connect to the printer?
It did not come with any cords.
Also, I'm hoping I don't need the disc from the printer, because after a move, I have no idea where that might be. Thanks in advance

HI@Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Community!! After reading your post I see you want to connect the printer to the new router. I would like to help you out with this issue today.
Click here to find WPS password of your new router.
Step 1
- Make sure you know your network name and your security password is handy.
- On the printer's control panel, go to the Network menu or touch the wireless icon and then go to settings. Select Wireless Setup Wizard. The Wireless Setup Wizard displays a list of wireless networks in the area.
- Settings may be accessed by touching a wrench icon.
- Select your wireless network's name from the list.
- If you don't see your wireless network listed, you can enter your network name manually by scrolling to the bottom of the list. If you enter the name manually it must be exact, including upper and lower case characters.
- Enter your WEP key or WPA passphrase. You must enter the key or passphrase exactly, including upper and lower case characters. Your printer should connect to your wireless network. If it does not connect, you are given the opportunity to print a Wireless Network Test report that will help you find out what may be wrong.
Follow the steps mentioned under HP Wireless Setup Wizard in the document.
step 2 without a router WIFI direct
Set up your printer using a Wi-Fi Direct connection with a computer running OS X.
- Turn on Wi-Fi Direct on the printer.
- For printers with a control panel, touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon
to display the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
- For printers without a control panel, press the Information button
to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
- If the printer does not have an Information button, press and hold the Resume button
for 2 seconds to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
- On the computer or laptop, click the wireless icon
or
, select DIRECT-xx-HP [your printer model name] from the list of available networks.
NOTE:
If the printer name does not display, you might be out of range of the Wi-Fi Direct signal. Move your computer and printer closer together.
- Enter the Wi-Fi Direct password.
- On the computer, click System Preferences, and then click Printers and Scanners.
- menu, DevicesIn the click
below the list of devices to add a device.
- Click your printer name, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection and driver installation.
