Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I've got my new Predator connect w6 router installed, all of my devices are connected except for my HP officejet pro 8600. In trying to use the setup wizard i get an error for filtering (MAC address filtering may be on) but there is no setting to toggle that as it seems its not filtering (but can add items to the Wifi MAC filter - which will block them). I've tried to use the WPS set up to auto allow/connect with the same results. I then reset the printer to defaults and I can't connect to it wireless by adding a printer from my laptop. It was suggested to change the auto channel to a fixed channel but that doesn't seem to help either. with not being able to connect to it at all I'm not sure how to even troubleshoot it or upgrade drives etc.

Hi @Grithendel,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing connectivity issues with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer and your new Predator Connect W6 router. Let's try a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot the problem.

Check MAC Address Filtering:

  • Even if you believe MAC address filtering is not enabled, double-check the router settings to ensure it's disabled.
  • If there's an option to view the MAC address list, confirm that your printer's MAC address is not blocked.

WPS Setup:

  • Make sure you are following the correct steps for the WPS setup. Sometimes it's necessary to press a button on the router and then on the printer within a specific timeframe.
  • If the WPS setup fails, consider trying manual setup instead.

Printer Reset:

  • After resetting the printer to defaults, ensure that the wireless settings on the printer are configured correctly.
  • If there's an option to run a wireless setup wizard on the printer, use it to configure the wireless connection.

Network Channel:

  • Changing the auto channel to a fixed channel is a good suggestion. Choose a channel that is not crowded. You can use tools like WiFi analyzer apps to find the least congested channel.

Printer Driver Update:

  • If you manage to connect the printer, ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your laptop. You can download them from the HP support website.

Manual Connection:

  • If all else fails, try manually connecting the printer to the Wi-Fi network on your laptop.
    • Go to your laptop's control panel or settings.
    • Select "Devices and Printers."
    • Click on "Add a printer" and follow the on-screen instructions to manually enter the printer's IP address.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
