I have a Laptop ENVY X360 purchased only over a year ago. All of a sudden noticed the battery was not being charged while the power cord was plugged in. What could be the cause?

If your HP Envy x360 laptop is not charging despite being connected to the power cord, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some possible causes and solutions.

 

Faulty Power Adapter or Cord:

  • Ensure that the power adapter and charging cable are working correctly. You can try using a different power adapter or cable to see if the issue persists.

Battery Issues:

  • The battery might be faulty. Batteries have a limited lifespan, and if the laptop is relatively new, it's possible that there's a defect in the battery. Consider contacting HP support for further assistance, especially if your laptop is still under warranty.

Resetting the Power Management System:

  • Try resetting the laptop's power management system. To do this, turn off the laptop, disconnect the power cord, and remove the laptop battery if possible. Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds, then reconnect the battery and power cord and try turning on the laptop.

Driver Issues:

  • Outdated or corrupted battery drivers can also cause charging problems. Check the Device Manager for any issues with the battery driver. You may need to update or reinstall the driver.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop model on the HP support website. Sometimes, updating the system firmware can resolve power-related issues.

Faulty Charging Port or Connector:

  • Inspect the charging port on the laptop for any physical damage or debris. Ensure that the power connector is securely plugged into the port.

Power Settings:

  • Check your power settings in the operating system. Sometimes, changes in power settings can affect the charging behavior. Make sure the power settings are configured correctly.

Thanks very much Alden4 for your help. I was actually able to reset power management and get this to work again. However, I'd like to know the root cause of this happening considering the fact that this laptop is only a bit over a year old (and unfortunately not under warranty any more). I have owned HP products for the past 30 years and never experienced a problem like this so soon after purchase. Needless to say I am very disappointed if this happens again. I appreciate if you let me know if there is any way to avoid this situation again.
