Common problems for Connectivity Issues

It just keeps saying connnecting and never actually connecting to the printer.

If your computer is stuck on "connecting" and never actually connects to your HP printer, here are some common causes and steps to troubleshoot:

 

Check the Basics

  • Power & Cables: Ensure the printer is turned on and all cables (USB or power) are securely connected.
  • Wi-Fi Connection: If it's a wireless printer, make sure it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.

Restart Devices

  • Restart your printer, computer, and Wi-Fi router. This can often resolve temporary connection issues.

Reinstall the Printer

  • Go to your computer’s Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Remove the printer, then click “Add a printer or scanner” to reinstall it.

Check Printer Status

  • On the printer’s screen or control panel, check for any error messages or connectivity icons.
  • If it’s a wireless printer, verify it’s connected to the correct network.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP offers a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can automatically diagnose and fix many issues:

  • Download it from here.

Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Visit the HP Drivers & Software page and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Install them and restart your computer.
