@alexq1, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your computer is stuck on "connecting" and never actually connects to your HP printer, here are some common causes and steps to troubleshoot:
Check the Basics
- Power & Cables: Ensure the printer is turned on and all cables (USB or power) are securely connected.
- Wi-Fi Connection: If it's a wireless printer, make sure it's connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
Restart Devices
- Restart your printer, computer, and Wi-Fi router. This can often resolve temporary connection issues.
Reinstall the Printer
- Go to your computer’s Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Remove the printer, then click “Add a printer or scanner” to reinstall it.
Check Printer Status
- On the printer’s screen or control panel, check for any error messages or connectivity icons.
- If it’s a wireless printer, verify it’s connected to the correct network.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
HP offers a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can automatically diagnose and fix many issues:
- Download it from here.
Update or Reinstall Drivers
- Visit the HP Drivers & Software page and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Install them and restart your computer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
