I continue to receive emails from HP that my printer is offline. Sometimes it is, sometimes it is not. I print the information page that says I "might" not be connected to internet but that I am connected to my wireless network. What does this mean? I see others have this trouble with various HP printers but I see advised troubleshooting steps but no explanation of WHY or HOW can this be?

Hi @6mile,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for reaching out. I know it’s frustrating to get those repeated "printer is offline" emails on the HP Deskjet 2700 printer, especially when you can see the printer connected to Wi-Fi, or it even prints just fine sometimes. Let's address it and get it solved.
Here are some concrete steps that go beyond the basic “turn it off and on again” advice:
1. Assign a Static IP Address to Your Printer
This keeps your printer from “moving” on the network.
- Open a browser and enter your printer’s IP (from the Network Config Page).
- Go to Network > Advanced Settings > IPv4 Configuration.
- Change from Automatic (DHCP) to Manual.
- Use the same IP address that’s currently assigned (you can find it on the info page).
- Save and reboot the printer.
2. Ensure the Printer Has Internet Access
- On the same EWS (web interface), go to Web Services.
- Make sure Web Services / HP ePrint / Instant Ink is enabled.
- If you see “Not connected to Web Services,” click Enable and follow the prompts.
3. Change Sleep Settings (Optional)
- On some DeskJet models, you can extend or disable Auto-Off/Sleep to prevent long disconnections.
- On the printer’s control panel (or HP Smart app), go to Settings > Preferences > Power or similar and check available options.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
