I have a new modem and even though I run setup wizard and enter wifi name and password, printer still will not connect. It printed a troubleshooting result talking about MAC address filtering and gives me a MAC hardware address but I have no idea what to do with tthat information.

Access Modem Settings:

  • Open a web browser on a device connected to your new modem.
  • Enter the IP address of your modem in the address bar. This is often something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. You can find this in your modem's documentation or by contacting your ISP.

Disable MAC Address Filtering (if applicable):

  • Look for a section in your modem's settings related to "MAC Address Filtering," "Access Control," or "Wireless MAC Filter."
  • If MAC Address Filtering is enabled, you may need to disable it temporarily to allow your printer to connect. Alternatively, you can add the MAC address of your printer to the allowed devices list.

Find Printer's MAC Address:

  • You mentioned your printer provided a MAC hardware address in the troubleshooting result. This is a unique identifier for your printer's network interface.
  • To find your printer's MAC address:
    • Print a Wireless Network Test Report or Configuration Page from the printer’s control panel. It usually includes network details including the MAC address.
    • Alternatively, you can often find the MAC address printed on a label on the printer itself, typically on the back or bottom.

Add Printer’s MAC Address to Modem:

  • Once you have the MAC address:
    • Go back to your modem's settings page.
    • Add the printer's MAC address to the allowed list (if you disabled MAC filtering) or the specific device list (if applicable).
    • Save the changes.

Reconnect Printer:

  • After making these changes, restart your printer and try connecting it to the Wi-Fi network again using the setup wizard.

Confirm Connection:

  • Once connected, print a test page to ensure everything is working correctly.

 

If you continue to have issues, double-check that the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password are correctly entered during the printer setup process.
