Hi @Russ_K-56 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fn does not have built-in wireless capabilities, but you can still set it up for wireless use on your MacBook Air by connecting it to your network using an Ethernet cable and enabling network sharing. Here's how you can do it without losing functionality on your desktop PC:
Step 1: Connect the Printer to Your Network
Connect via Ethernet:
- Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into your printer and the other end into your router.
- Ensure the printer is powered on and the Ethernet connection is secure.
Verify Connection:
- Print a network configuration page from the printer's control panel to confirm the printer is on the same network as your devices.
- Press the Setup button on the printer's control panel → Select Reports → Print Network Configuration Page.
Step 2: Install the Printer on Your MacBook Air Set up the HP printer with AirPrint in macOS
Add Printer via System Preferences:
- On your MacBook, go to System Settings (or System Preferences) → Printers & Scanners.
- Click the + button to add a new printer.
- Select your printer from the list (it should appear as long as it's connected to the network).
- If prompted, download and install the necessary drivers.
Set Default Printer (Optional):
- You can make this your default printer by selecting it and clicking Set as Default.
Step 3: Retain Use on Your PC
- The printer will remain functional on your desktop PC through the Ethernet connection as it is shared on the same network.
- If your desktop PC doesn't have the printer set up for Ethernet use yet, follow these steps:
- Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers → Add a Printer.
- Select Add a Network Printer, and choose the M127fn from the list.
Alternative: Use Printer Sharing
If you cannot connect the printer via Ethernet to your router:
- Keep the printer connected to your PC and use your PC to share the printer over the network.
- On your PC:
- Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
- Right-click the printer and select Printer Properties → Go to the Sharing tab.
- Enable Share this printer and give it a recognizable name.
- On your MacBook, add the printer using its shared name (you may need the PC's IP address).

Thank you for your quick response. I have a HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M127fn that I have been using for a few years with a cable to my desktop PC. I would like to use this same printer wireless for my MacBook Air. Can that be done without losing use by my PC? Can you tell me how to do this?
