A chum has given me an HP6520 which was just out of warranty, and failed.

Bascially, though the integral power supply green light is on, when pressing the 'power on'  button on the printer, nothing happens - the printer is just dead. He needed his printer urgently so rushed out and bought another HP6520. He knew that I was considering buying one so  gave the faulty one me to see if I could get it to work. He removed the integral power supply from the faulty printer to try it in the new one and it works fine, so the fault doesn't rest with the integral power supply.

I've gone through all the points on the fault-finding pages for this fault, for which most of the diagnostic checks and advice relates to the power supply, all to no avail. Seems a shame to just trash this otherwise pristine little-used printer if there is something obscure that could be rectified!  It's the usual 'catch 22' situation - a new printer would probably be cheaper than paying HP to service it.

Just clutching at straws really - any thoughts please before I trash it?

David

Hi David.

Welcome to the Forums. I see that you are having issues with the printer not powering on. I also see that you already tested the power adapter and it works fine on another printer. One question I do have is , when you plug the power cable in to a power source is it a Power Bar/Strip or direct to a wall outlet? Please make sure that you are connecting the printer power cable direct to a wall outlet. HP printers already have built in surge protector and if the unit is connected to a Bar/Strip, the printer will NOT get all the power needed to function properly. Here is a document that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.  I have also research this issue and I have found an other document that troubleshoots when The HP Printer Won't Turn On or Respond.

Hope this helps with the issue. If you have any other questions, please feel free to write back.

Thanks David.

Hi Waterboy71.

Thanks for reading and responding to my 'help' request - sorry for the tardy reply!

Yes, I've ensured that the printer is plugged directly into the wall socket for power, but unfortunately, it's still dead. As I said before, the integral (removable) power supply green light is on, it is properly plugged in and and the power supply has been tried in a new replacement 6520 where it works fine. Also, the power supply from the new printer has been tried in this faulty printer, but the printer is still dead.

Sadly, I can only assume therefore that whatever ails the  printer it is not 'user serviceable', is beyond economic repair and has gone to 'printer heaven' with no hope of resurrection, leaving me behind to grieve its premature demise. I guess that the only course of action now open to me is to give it a quiet and dignified burial.

Life is full of little dissappointments, but I've got my happy face on today, won't let it keep me awake and night and in time, I guess I'll get over it!

Thanks once more for your guidance.

David,
