Hello madmanjose.

I reviewed the troubleshooting steps you listed, and tried them. These are good troubleshooting steps for hooking up a printer to the computer.

Ashley

I worked on behalf of HP.

I have tried all  of the proposed solutions and none of the worked for me.  However, I have found a workaround that worked quite well for me:

I installed NAPS2 (Not Another PDF Scanner 2) which is an opensource freeware application that I downloaded from the Sourceforge.net website.  It allowed me to scan from my HP8500 printer using a WIA Driver. I was able to scan from the feeder or glass and save as a PDF or jpg file.  I am sure there probably are  other freewarr programs out there as well that you might want to considerif  you are tired of unsuccessfully trying the HP solutions like I did.

Work around Shmerk around!  This is an obvious issue that HP should be acknowladging and has not.  I have been battleing this ever since I got Win 7 Ultimate.  It seems if their automated "Solution Center" doesn't find the problem, HP won't acknowladge there is a problem.  Nice work Boys and Girls.

Hi LilSnot,

I don't disagree with.  I think HP is either ignoring the problem or really have no clue how to solve it.  I gave up on HP finding a solution and therefore I thought that the workout might to useful to others.  At least I can scan now from the computer using my HP8500 printer.  I just don't use HP software to scan anymore.

When all else fails, Windows Fax and Scan. It's generic but easier than going crazy trying to fix this error.

Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

We all know that Windows Fax and Scan does not provide any PDF option to scan.

I also prefer Plug and Play trouble-free digital life, but HP is big (and clumsy and deeply embedded) and we important, but yet little home users must suffer, I guess. Never mind Consumers International.

Back to scanning issue.

My situation was pretty much the same:

scanners (printers): Officejet J4580 and Officejet Pro 8500 A909g

error:                     8, [(1,0, -2147221164)]

PC:                        HP EliteBook 8770w

both affected OS:  Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP 1 (factory)

                         Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP 1 (2nd hard drive)

and  this method from above Steps to remove the HP software - E709.doc ‏83 KB worked for me, but only after these apps (or registry keys) were removed from the system using Microsoft Fix it cleanup utility:

  • 64 Bit HP CIO Components Installer
  • bpd_scan
  • scan

So, solution for me is combined one. Thanks for information to all you guys!
