I have Windows Ultimate 64 bit and after having tried repeatedly to install this software (full version 14) I keep getting this error.
I have seen from your forums that dozens of people have posted this same problem all with Windows 7 64 bit and no one at HP has answered a single one.
The printer is networked and all the features work properly from the other 5 PC's in our home that access it, except from my main desktop PC.
So what ever the problem is, it is specific to only the one PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 but reading you forums I'm certainly not alone with this problem.
It is apparently wide spread in Windows 7 64 bit so why no feedback from HP?
I have uninstalled and scrubbed and reinstalled with both ver 13 & 14 of the full driver and the same thing. The imaging device shows up correctly in Device Manager with the correct drivers. Have uninstalled using levels 1 thru 4 in both versions of the drivers multiple times (BTW even Level 4 leaves plenty of foot prints behind so if you have something better that will truly eradicate ALL traces of anything HP could we please have it?)
After multiple Level 4 scrubs I manually edited the registry removing anything HP as well as many folders and files it left behind and still no good. Disabled all possibly interfering software (antivirus & firewalls etc..)
All printer functions work correctly and the scanner section shows properly installed drivers in Device Manager. Even trying to scan from the printer to the PC results in "no computer found".
I used every tool and utilty you have for these types of problems (one of them even sent you the reel's of a log file and put a utility on my desktop that I followed to the letter, again N/G.
So please give us all a break and let us know something. Even if it is you are aware of the problem and working on it.
Right now from the forums it seems like we're all just being ignored!

I have tried all of the proposed solutions and none of the worked for me. However, I have found a workaround that worked quite well for me:
I installed NAPS2 (Not Another PDF Scanner 2) which is an opensource freeware application that I downloaded from the Sourceforge.net website. It allowed me to scan from my HP8500 printer using a WIA Driver. I was able to scan from the feeder or glass and save as a PDF or jpg file. I am sure there probably are other freewarr programs out there as well that you might want to considerif you are tired of unsuccessfully trying the HP solutions like I did.

I have the same *exact* issue. No responses from HP either - at least not within a decent amount of time. Is 4 months the usual turn around time?
I have a HP OfficeJet Pro L7580, and getting the same issue. Printing works fine, but the scanner is not able to connect AT ALL.
Please, somebody post a fix for this.

Have you tried downloading the latest version of the software and all of the available updates for you operating system?
The link can be found here:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=2512008&task=...
Uninstalling the software and starting fresh with the most recent version of the software would be my first recommendation. After installing the software, I would download the updates that are available for your operation system. I noticed a few that addressed scanning issues for Windows 7.
If you have already tried these steps or you do try them and it still doesn't work, reply back and let me know and we can go from there. Also knowing your operating system would help me out a lot for future troubleshooting if the software and updates don't fix it for you.

Hi Kyle, and thanks for getting back.
This is a new installation on Win7 64bit. I downloaded the drivers from HP last week, so they are the newest drivers.
Please note, I've had this printer installed on my home network for a few years, so the only "new" component is this PC. This PC is also the only PC I would send my scans to, since the other PC's on the system aren't setup to receive scans (personal choice and general lack of disk space).
I have relentlessly installed, and uninstalled many times. I've scrubbed the system of all HP drivers / software / registry lines several times, and I always get the same results. I have even gotten an error stating the TWAIN device was already in use by another device. (I can post the exact error code later - it's not with me now).
Thanks again

Yes, I have all the MS Win7 updates as well.
This is configured through my networked router, not via USB. I have a DHCP assigned IP for the printer.

Eusibius,
Have you ran the Print and Scan doctor yet?
It can be found here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-106151-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
After you run that, reply back in this thread and let me know what is failing under scanning. You mentioned that you saw an error message that TWAIN was already in use, so I am curious if you are having issues with WIA also.
I found another post on our forum with an issue similar to yours, just with a different model printer. Here is the link to that forum post: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/HELP-Problem-using-HPSCAN-exe-or-TWAIN-driv...
Scroll down to the solution post by pcwizard. You might try giving that a shot also.

Kyle- here is a very long list of my results. Please take the time to read all the info. I've made comments on all 8 of the error messages (mostly which are all repeasts). At the end is some other pertinent info.
Thanks

1 - During scanning: A required software component was not found or was improperly installed. Reinstall the HP Photosmart software that came with the device, and try scanning again. 4,[(2,25,80040154),(0,0,0),(3,25,0)]
**NOTE: I’ve installed HP Photosmart several times, using the FULL software (OJProL7X00_Full_14.exe) several times. Software shows it is working properly.
2 – HP Twain Scan Error: Please save and close all your apps. Remove the power from your printer, plug it back in, turn it on and then click “restart computer”. Then run this utility again
**NOTE: tried this several times also. No luck.
3 – HP Scan Flow Manager – Some HP software components are missing. If you want to scan with HP software, you can re-run the install from the CD, making sure to include HP Solution Center and HP Imaging Device Functions. Or, you can download and install the most current Full Feature software from HP website.
**NOTE1: - HP Solution Center is installed and working. HP Imaging Device Functions is also installed while using the Full Feature driver install (see point #1).
**NOTE2 – yes, I can scan from Paint, but not from HP software.
4 – The HP imaging device was not found. Try the following stpes. After each step, try scanning again:
- turn off and then unplug the device, wait 60 sec then try again (I did, and it doesn’t change anything)
- Make sure the device’s power cord and cable are properly attached, plugged in, and the device is on. (Yes, yes, and yes – these are all correct and doesn’t change anything)
- Reboot the computer. (I did, and it doesn’t change anything)

5 – Driver error: The scan driver is missing or corrupt. This will require an uninstall / reinstall and several reboots. Etc…
**NOTE: the UNINSTALL button only attempts to remove the software again. I've gone through this a few times with no changes.
6 – HP Twain Scan error: The TWIAN component is not functioning properly because th product is being used by another process. Without this component, you cannot scan with HP Solution Center software and some other 3rd party apps, but you can use Paint. If you want to scan with HP software, then you should save your work, turn off the device and then on, and then restart your computer.
**NOTE: again, I've tried this and there are no changes.
7 – HP Scan Flow Manager: Some HP software components are missing. This could happen with a driver only install or incomplete installation. You can scan without HP software… etc..
8 – Front Panel: The HP Scan Diag Utility has detected some issues with the printer Front Panel settings. Click FIX to resolve these issues.
NOTE: clicking Fix will say the device is not found, reboot, reinstall, etc.. error code 8, [(1,0, -2147221164)]

Technical info:
Friendly Name: HP Office Jet Pro L7500 Series
Port: 192.168.0.158
Model: C8187A
Software version: 140.000.000.000
Firmware version: R0031xxNxcN0
PCA Raw Version: 0
Serial ID Number: 17146
Printer Driver Version: 61.63.263.23

Other notes:
- Yes, I can access the device using the web interface (192.168.0.158). Everything appears normal.
- Yes, I can make a stand alone copy.
- Yes, I can scan from Paint.
- WIA service is in automatic mode. I stopped and restarted. No changes to HP software / scanning made.
- RPC service is started (already in automatic mode)
- Shell Hardware detection service was automatic and already started. I changed to Manual (as per PCWizard’s advice), and left it in started mode.
- Dependent services, DCOM Service Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper, are already started (set to automatic) and working properly.
Also, for what it's worth, after several uninstalls / reinstalls.. I have used the L4 (scrubber OJProL7X00_Scrubber_14 ), cleaned the registry, cleared cache / temp folders / recycle bin, removed old HP folders before re-installing AGAIN. Disabling all start up services / apps / firewall + AV, too... This doesn't do the trick either. I'm getting very frustrated with this whole process.
You should also note, this is a clean install of Win7, 64bit, so there is very little software installed on this PC. This means there should be no interference from other / 3rd party software.

Hello Eusibius2
Thanks for the high detail. Have you tried to connect the printer with a USB cable to see if the same error occurs. Also does the printer work fine on another computer?
@Eusibius2 wrote:**NOTE: I’ve installed HP Photosmart several times, using the FULL software (OJProL7X00_Full_14.exe) several times. Software shows it is working properly.
Did you mean you've installed your HP Officjet? Based on the product number shown below you have the HP Officejet Pro L7580.
Try checking Windows Event Viewer for any entries related to the installation of the HP Software. I have sometimes seen cases where errors did occur during installation and it appeared as though everything installed fine. However, after checking Windows Event viewer you can locate some entries related to MSI Fatal Errors.
- Click the Windows icon (
), type Event Viewer in the search box, and then press Enter . The Event Viewer opens.
Figure 5: Open the Event Viewer - In the Event Viewer frame (on the left), click Windows logs .
- Under Windows logs , click Application . The Event Viewer results display in the middle pane.
- In the middle frame in the Source column, find the most recent
Error entry from HP .
Tip: You can click the Source column to sort in alphabetical order to make it easier find the most recent entry from HP. You can also click Date (or any of the other columns) to sort.
- Click the
Error entry. The error details display in the General tab .
- In the General tab , look for a numbered code. This is the specific error message that you need to troubleshoot.
- Make a note of the error code, and then continue to the next step for the appropriate troubleshooting.
When a solution is found please mark the post that solves your issue.
