How do I setup my 8600 officejet pro to only print in black and white automatically so I don't have to authorise each time I print?

Hi Andrewbono,

I understand you have an Officejet 8600 that you want to set to print in black and white only. I'd be happy to help you with this.

If the below instructions don't help, please just let me know which version of Windows or Mac you're working with and I will get the instructions for your specific system

For Windows 7, you would go into your Devices and Printers (through Control Panel) and right click on the Officejet 8600 and select Printing Preferences. From there you will see a screen similar to the one on the left in the screen shot below. You will then click the Advanced button and get a screen like the one on the right. You will want to select Black Ink Only as shown, and then click OK on that screen and then Apply on the other. Once that is done the printer will use the black cartridge only when printing from the computer.

Hope this helps, have a great day!!

Thanks for your reply, yes u have done this but the printer asks for permission to use black ink only every time I go to print and won't print automatically. When using the eprint option from my smart phone I have to manually hit the use black ink only option on the printers touch screen to print.
How do you set it on auto so printer operates same as with colour

Thanks

Hi Andrewbono,

Thank you for the quick reply!

My apologies, I just assumed you were meaning on a computer. Unfortunately for the ePrint, there is no way to put the Black Ink Only setting in permanently, you will have to select it each time. The only permanent Black Ink Only setting is within the print driver and it only works when printing from the computer.

Hope this answers your question!

Even when I print from my computer it still asks permission "black in only" instead of printing automatically.

It is now not printing at all because the cyan colour has run out even though other 3 colours still have ink. Is that normal?

Hi Andrewbono,

Thanks again for the reply!

If one of the inks run out, yes it's normal for the printer to stop printing. The printhead needs all of the inks in order to remain healthy so it will stop printing to conserve what little ink it has in it's reserves for health purposes.

What program are you printing from that it's asking permission to print in black ink only?

If you print from Notepad does it ask permission then?

Which version of Windows are you working with?

Hope to hear back from you soon.

Hi Andrewbono,

Thank you again for the reply.

Is it only asking for permission when printing from Gmail?

What happened when you printed from Notepad?
