M277dw Color Laserjet

I often need to copy on A5 papers, the documents are at this paper size; When purchasing this printer according to its datasheet it was supposed to support A5 paper as well as other paper sizes.

Why the paper size for copy function is only limited to three Paper sizes (A4, Legal, Letter), and the A5 paper, which is ISO and International paper size, is not supported;

I tried to load the paepr tray with A5 paper, but because this paper size is not among the supported papers (in Copy settings), The copy process can't proceed.

I think there is no workaround or function to perform this action.

I wonder if this printer is sold internationally, why the paper sizes are limited to American and ANSI standard?

Will this issue be fixed in the  future firmware updates?  It seems that it's as easy as defining and adding a new paper size in Copy Settings

Hi @y2uq,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you would like more paper sizes in the copy menu on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw Printer. I would be happy to look into this with you today.

I pulled up the  datasheet and I do not see any misinformation regarding supported paper sizes in the copy specifications.

This printer supports Letter, Legal and A4 paper sizes in the copy menu. This is HP's design, therefore, there are no firmware updates to give you more paper sizes in the copy menu. If you need to be able to copy A5 paper, you purchased the wrong printer.

NOTE: The details listed for 'Paper handling' is for printing, not copying or scanning.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion. Please respond with any concerns you may have! Have a great day! 🙂

hi, Drakster

In my opinion, this is not acceptable and it's only a justification for lack of proper design considering all the customers in the market.

When you sell printers in countries using different standard paper sizes your product should support and fullfill the needs in that market.   It doesn't make sense to design a product specifically for US market and export it to other countries using a different standards for paper size. In my area, the mainly used paper standard sizes are A4 and A5 papers.

By the way, in the datasheet you mentioned, there is no mentioning of Legal paper size, and the supported paper sizes for Copy operation is not directly mentioned, though in the copy speed section there is an entry about A4  and letter papers.

For the A4 multifuntion printer supporting print, copy and scan features, it's basic and trivial to expect beign able to work with different paper sizes, specially because of resizable paper tray. So why deliberately this printer is designed to support only three paper sizes? and why letter size is included and A5 paper size is not supported? what's the reason for including Letter paper and excluding A5 paper size?

after this issue happened, I've searched on the Internet and found that in the similar case, other companies provide more diverse funtionalities and paper sizes compared to HP Printers.

I will remember this lack of consideration about the needs of all the customers using the printer. and In the future I definitely wil not choose HP products.

Hi @y2uq,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details.

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this Post has instructions.

Thank You.

Hi Drakster,

I couldn't reach HP forums for a while, I forgot to mention that, In the version of datasheet file I found on HP website, when I was about to choose this product, there was no direct reference to the supported paper sizes for "copy" function.
And in the version of datasheet you sent here, there isn't also any reference to "Legal" paper size which is supported in copy function.
This problem still persists, as It's a lack of feature in printer firmware. Because it seems that according to the lack of support for more international standard paper sizes, this product in intended to be used by end users in USA but unfortunately it's produced and sold outside this country.
I will send more details about the problem to the HP contact.

I wanted to mention another point, in case you think expecting support for more paper sizes in unreasonable, I will refer you to a similar Black & White Printer from another company, which they support way more paper sizes and features (just look at page 50 in the pdf file).
