My son's cat jumped on the printer to look out the window and caused it to fall.  I've gone thru the instructions given to fix  the jam, but the cartridges are firmly stuck on the right side.  Any suggestions?  I'm concerned if I pushed extremely hard to the left, I'll damage the printer.

   Thanks....Sharon

Hey Sharon,

Have you tried reaching into the right section of the printer, lifting up on the printhead, and attempt to re-seat the print carriage on the carriage rod?  It is possible that it is out of alignment on the rod making it unable to move.  However, it is also possible that the carriage assembly was damaged in the drop.

There is a document with detailed steps to troubleshoot a carriage jam in a Photosmart 6510.  The document can be found here.  Let me know how it goes.

Hi Jason--

I attempted lifting up the printhead on the right--no go!!!  Will try later, but if the carriage assembly was damaged is the unit basically useless?  These grandkitties---what we do for our kids!!!

Thanks for the link.

Sharon,

If the print carriage assembly is damaged to the point that it cannot move, then the printer will not be able to function.  The carriage is the portion that delivers ink to the page.

PS - I have a cat that is mischievous as well.  I can sympathize with the plight of cats knocking stuff off shelves.

I hope you can get the unit back functional, however.  Best of luck.
