Change SSID on HP Deskjet All-In-One 2540

Hi, we have a new router and I was able to print the network configuration page for my printer and see the SSID is different than what the new network is.  How can I change to the new network.  My system is a Mac its about 2 years old I think it uses Mt Lion.  

I's sure it's easy to do but I just can't figure it out.  My Computer is already on the new WiFi but the printer gave me the error message printer is not connected when I tried printing.

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

Because you have a new router you're going to have to rerun the Wireless Setup for your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One in order to get it configured with your new network.

I'm including the steps for Mac on how to reconfigure the wireless network on the printer. Please just run through the following step-by-step document:

Hi

I am on mac OS X Yosemite v10.10.2 and I have tried following the instructions but it is not giving me the options listed. Can you give me step by step instructions how to change the SSID - it was working perfectly wireless on our old internet router network but we have just upgraded to BT infinity and it's still connected to the old SSID.

Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue. I'm sorry to hear that the steps provided failed to resolve your wireless connectivity issue.

The wireless setup instructions that I provided for Mac OS X 10.8 and Mac OS X 10.9 are identical for Mac OS X 10.10. You run the install and when prompted, check the box that you want to configure the connection for wireless and the configuration occurs. You need a USB Cable for the wireless setup as your machine does not have a front panel wireless setup wizard. If you attempted all of the steps I previously provided, but they failed to reconfigure your device, please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Reset the Print System:

To start, I am going to have you Reset the Print System on your Mac as it is important that we have a nice clean slate to work with for troubleshooting. Please click here for instructions on how to perform the Reset. When the website opens follow the steps under'Resetting the printing system in OS X Lion' as the steps are the same for your Mac OS X 10.10 Operating System. This Reset will remove every printer from your Mac. However, it does not uninstall the printers. Therefore, should you use other printers on this Mac, once the Reset is complete simply ensure that the printers are connected via a USB Cable or Network connected and (+) Add them back in. Do not add your HP Deskjet back in at this time.

Once the reset is complete, please proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Uninstall Drivers and Software:

Next, please click here for steps on how to properly uninstall your printer. Once the site opens select the dropdown for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9'  as they are the same for Mac OS X 10.10 and follow the steps to complete the uninstall process.

Once the uninstall is complete, please continue on.

Step 3: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:

1. Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
2. Go to the Utilities Folder
3. Open the Disk Utility
4. Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
5. Select Verify Disk Permissions
6. Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions

Step 4: Check for Apple Updates:

1. Go to Apple
2. Select System Preferences
3. Select Software Update
4. Click Update Now
5. Install your available updates
6. Restart your computer

Step 5: Install the Printer:

1. Plug a USB Cable from your computer to your printer
2. Please click here to download the drivers for your printer
3. Once the website opens, select the download button on the top left
4. Once the download is complete, please follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall your machine
5. When prompted, select the USB connected printer and click Continue to start the wireless connection setup
6. Make sure your check the box to configure the printer wirelessly

If the USB setup of wireless still fails, you may want to try the WPS wireless setup if your router is compatible with WPS. To configure the wireless via WPS you can follow one of the two methods below.

• Method one: Push Button:

1. On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button () for 3 seconds. The Wireless status light starts blinking.
2. Press the WPS button on the router. The printer automatically finds the wireless network and configures the connection.
3. The printer starts a timer that allows about two minutes to press the WPS button on the wireless router.

• Method two: PIN:

1. On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button () and the Start Copy Black button () at the same time. A network configuration page prints. At the top of the network configuration page is the WPS PIN.
2. Press and hold the Wireless button () for 3 seconds. The Wireless status light starts blinking.
3. Open the configuration utility or software for the wireless router, and then enter the WPS PIN.

Once the wireless is connected on the printer, run the installation using the steps I provided above to reinstall your printer.
