I set up a new printer for my boss last week. This new one does not create a new folder for each date that a scan is made and then put the scanned file into that folder. How do I tell it to do that? Or, as an option, how do I tell it to name it by the date and just put it in My Scans?

Hey @OG80,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you would like to set the scans from your HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One Printer to go to a specific folder on your Windows 7 computer. I would like to assist you with this today. Now I checked for the Officejet I have here and it looks like there is no way to have the scans automatically name and date themselves. This is something that you may need to do manually. However, there is a way to configure the HP Scan software to automatically save your scans to a specific folder of your choosing. Can I please have you follow the steps below to configure the Scan Save options.
1. Click on the HP Printer Assistant software icon on your computer desktop
2. When the HP Printer Assistant opens select Scan a Document or Photo
3. When HP Scan opens, select Document to File on the left. Next, click Advanced Settings on the bottom right.
4. When Advanced settings opens, select the Destination tab
5. Under Save Location you can hit 'browse' and choose a specific folder that you would like your scans to save to. If you see any options under here to name the scans based off of day or month, please select it. Once available settings have been adjusted under the Destination tab select OK
Now that the scan settings have been adjusted your scans will now save in the folder you have manually selected.
Please let me know if the information provided resolves your issue. Good luck! 🙂

I have done this already. I would like to avoid the generic file name that it creates, but it appears that is not a possibilty. My Xerox scanner allows you to put in #Y_#M_#D_#N for the file name, but if I remember correctly, the special characters are not allowed in Officejet.

Hey @OG80,
Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue.
Special characters are not supported in the Save To file box. However, you can use periods or spaces to separate the Year, Month, Day and Name. For Example: 08.17.2015 Scan Test would be an accepted File Name. To save the scans into specific Month folders for easier access you can manually create the desired Folder under Documents: My Scans if you wish. To do this, please follow the steps below.
- Click on your Start menu
- Select Documents
- Select My Scans (or Scanned Documents)
- In the Scan folder, right click in the white of the folder and select New
- Choose New Folder
- You can now name that folder. Example August 2015
- Now, when you perform a scan, once you select Save the Save dialogue box will open
- In this Save To dialogue box choose Documents on the left
- Choose My Scans (or Scanned Documents)
- Choose the August 2015 folder
- Name the scan under the File Name section.
- Click Save
With future scans this Save To location will be remembered so you should not need to manually choose the August 2015 folder for the duration of the month. When September comes, just manually create a September 2015 folder under My Scans.
Good luck! 🙂
